NOUN Inaugurates Students Consultative Forum

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has inaugurated its Students Consultative Forum (NSCF) and sworn in its pioneer Executive Committee to deepen student representation and engagement. The ceremony took place on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the University Headquarters in Abuja, with members of Management, Study Centre Directors, staff, and student leaders attending both physically and virtually.

During the inauguration, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma described the Forum as a significant step in strengthening the University’s student engagement architecture, particularly given NOUN’s wide and dispersed learner base as an Open and Distance Learning institution. He urged the pioneer executives to serve as a bridge between students and Management by listening to their colleagues, understanding University policies and procedures, and engaging constructively.

Prof. Uduma emphasized the importance of moving beyond mere complaints to providing practical solutions regarding learner support, technology, communication, and other aspects of the student experience. “When something does not work, tell us, but go further. Ask why it does not work, then think about how it might work better,” he stated.

Additionally, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged the Forum to participate intellectually in the development of the University and to foster a culture of service and responsible leadership, stressing the need for unity of purpose. “There are no two camps – one belonging to Management and another belonging to students. There is one University, and we all serve it in different capacities and for different seasons,” he added.

Earlier, the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Ernest Ugbejeh, remarked that the establishment of the NSCF marks another milestone in the University’s commitment to participatory governance, student welfare, and improved learner experience. He explained that the Forum was created as a structured platform to articulate students’ concerns, promote understanding of University rules and policies, and facilitate continuous dialogue between students and Management.

The inauguration ceremony also featured the administration of the oath of office to the pioneer executives and goodwill messages from various stakeholders.
