AU Anti-Corruption Day 2025: NOUN, AU, and ICPC Unite to Highlight Whistleblower Protection

Abuja, Nigeria - The Africa Union (AU), in collaboration with the National Open University of Nigeria Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (NOUN-ACTU), and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), is set to jointly commemorate the 2025 African Union Anti-Corruption Day.

This year's observance will center around the crucial theme of "Effective Whistle-blower Protection Mechanism: A Critical Tool in the Fight Against Corruption." The event aims to underscore the importance of robust whistleblower protection in combating corruption across the continent.

The commemoration is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. It will be held at the University Central Library, Gabriel Afolabi Building, 3rd floor, NOUN headquarters, Jabi, Abuja.

The annual AU Anti-Corruption Day, observed every July 11th, marks the adoption of the AU Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption. This day serves as a platform to acknowledge advancements made in the fight against corruption in Africa and to critically assess strategies for eradicating this pervasive issue. It offers an opportunity for stakeholders to reflect on current approaches and explore innovative solutions.

A key component of the 2025 AU Anti-Corruption Day celebration will be a panel discussion focusing on the event's central theme. Prof. Ganiyat Adesina-Uthman, Director of Advancement and Linkages at NOUN, will moderate the session. Prof. Samuel Iroye from NOUN's Faculty of Social Sciences will contribute as a panelist, alongside other distinguished experts in the field.

Mrs. Doris Nzenwa, Head/Chair of NOUN-ACTU, will host the event, while Prof. Olufemi Peters, the Vice-Chancellor of NOUN, will serve as the Chief Host.
