NOUN Librarian Hails Smooth Conduct of Pen-on-Paper Exams at Enugu Centre

Enugu, Nigeria – The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has received high praise for its administration of the 2025_1 Pen-on-Paper (PoP) examinations, with the University Librarian, Dr. Angela Ebele Okpala, commending the process as "excellent."

Dr. Okpala made the assessment on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, during a monitoring visit to the Enugu Study Centre in Enugu State, where she observed the PoP examinations in progress. The Librarian lauded the meticulous nature of the examination procedures, emphasizing the well-organized and spaced seating arrangements which, she noted, effectively minimized opportunities for examination misconduct. "The processes in place are clearly designed to ensure fairness and integrity," Okpala stated.

Beyond the procedural aspects, Dr. Okpala also highlighted the favorable examination environment. She noted that the exam hall was well-ventilated and illuminated, contributing to a clean and conducive atmosphere for students. This attention to detail, according to Okpala, is crucial for optimal student performance.

Prof. Charity Akuadi Okonkwo, the Enugu Study Centre Director, received specific commendation from the University Librarian. Okpala described Okonkwo as a diligent leader and the embodiment of the university's mission at the local level. Her commitment to implementing university policies was particularly noted.

Dr. Okpala praised Prof. Okonkwo's hands-on leadership, specifically mentioning her direct involvement in sensitive tasks such as printing examination questions, a measure designed to prevent potential leaks. This proactive approach, according to the Librarian, exemplifies Okonkwo's dedication to maintaining the integrity of the examination process.

The Enugu Study Centre staff were also recognized for their dedication. Okpala commended their promptness, commitment, and unwavering efforts in ensuring the smooth execution of the examination exercise.

Acknowledging the need for continuous improvement, Dr. Okpala identified several areas where management intervention would be beneficial. These include the provision of a solar panel, a sumo water pump, and plumbing repairs, as well as a new operational vehicle for the Centre.
