NOUN Vice-Chancellor and DVC Honored for Leadership Excellence
Abuja, Nigeria - Professor Olufemi Peters, the Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), and Professor Isaac Butswat, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), have received awards of appreciation from the Congress of National Open University Students (CONS). The recognition highlights their sterling leadership attributes and commitment to the university community.
The prestigious awards were presented during a courtesy visit by a CONS delegation to the NOUN headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, on Friday, May 9, 2025. The student body sought to acknowledge the positive impact of the university's leadership.
Mr. Newland Wuche, President of CONS and leader of the five-member delegation, emphasized the significance of the awards. He stated that the recognition stemmed from the students' appreciation of the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor's effective guidance and dedication to fostering a conducive learning environment.
Beyond the awards, Wuche articulated the delegation's primary objectives for the visit. These included seeking clarification on the postponement of the CONS elections originally scheduled for March, exploring avenues for closer collaboration between the university administration and the student body, and requesting financial support from the university for upcoming student-led initiatives.
Professor Butswat, who also serves as the Chairman of the Student’s Welfare Board, responded positively to the call for enhanced collaboration. He revealed that NOUN is actively developing a vibrant online learning community to further connect and support its students.
Addressing concerns regarding the suspended elections, Professor Butswat assured the delegation that the university is diligently working on logistical arrangements to ensure an inclusive and fair electoral process for all students.
Professor Butswat further motivated the student representatives, urging them to prioritize their academic pursuits with diligence and integrity, while firmly discouraging any involvement in examination malpractices or other unethical behaviors.
Expressing gratitude for the awards bestowed upon himself and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Butswat described the recognition as a "pleasant surprise" and reaffirmed the university's commitment to serving the best interests of its students.
CONS, established earlier this year, is dedicated to advocating for and promoting the welfare and interests of NOUN students across the nation.
