World Bank Verifies Completion of ACETEL's New Facility

The Africa Centre of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning (ACETEL) recently hosted Arc. Oluwaseyi Akerele, a delegate from the World Bank, for a crucial verification visit. The purpose of the visit was to confirm the completion and operational readiness of ACETEL's newly constructed office building.

The completed building has undergone rigorous evaluations to ensure strict adherence to World Bank standards and established policies, guaranteeing its integrity and suitability for its intended purpose.

During the visit, Prof. Olufemi Peters, Vice-Chancellor of the university, addressed the World Bank delegate, who was accompanied by ACETEL Director, Prof. Grace Jokthan. Prof. Peters emphasized the importance of a positive recommendation, urging the visitor to acknowledge the building's successful completion and its potential for optimal utilization in accordance with World Bank guidelines.

Representing Prof. Peters, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (TIR), Prof. Godwin Akper, provided assurance that the building has consistently met all required standards throughout its construction and post-completion phases, indicating meticulous attention to detail.

Prof. Jokthan, in her briefing to the Vice-Chancellor and members of the ACETEL Board, highlighted the delegate's familiarity with the project. She stated, "The delegate has conducted an on-site inspection of ACETEL's Milestone Three, the building itself. He is familiar with our progress, having previously visited in 2022 for a similar verification exercise. We are pleased to welcome him back."

Arc. Akerele, representing the Association of African Universities (AAU), commented on the inspection, stating, "Following our comprehensive inspection, we believe the centre has performed admirably. Our report will primarily acknowledge the positive findings observed during the visit." He underscored the centre's commitment to excellence.

The inspection involved a thorough assessment of the new building and its installed facilities to confirm their proper functioning and suitability for intended use. This meticulous approach ensures the building meets the required operational standards.

Furthermore, the delegate engaged with Mr. Kazeem Onubaiye, ACETEL's Procurement Officer, to verify the centre's compliance with key milestone targets. These included: Self Certification on Institutions Procurement Rules, Published Advertisements for Tender, Opening of Bidding, Tender Opening and Evaluation Document, and Award of Contract Execution, as explicitly defined by the project's specifications.

Mr. Onubaiye readily supplied the necessary documentation pertaining to these milestones, demonstrating ACETEL's consistent adherence to all established standards and regulations. ACETEL's transparency and compliance were evident throughout the verification process
