Surulere Centre honours LG Chairman, alumni, others

The Surulere Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has honoured the Chairman of Surulere Local Government Area, Hon. Yusuf B. Suleiman, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the centre.


The ceremony, which took place on Friday, January 10, 2025, also recognised and awarded community associations and the university alumni for their exceptional supports and contributions.


The ceremony was held at the study centre's hall, and was attended by local government officials, dignitaries, invited guests, and centre staff members.


In her opening remarks, Centre Director, Prof. Yemisi Ogunlela, said the award presentation was “to recognize and appreciate the unwavering commitment of community members, who have contributed significantly to the growth and development of our study centre in various ways."


Ogunlela also expressed her appreciation to the association for their invaluable support and partnership.


The awardees included: Hon. Yusuf B. Suleiman, Chairman of Surulere Local Government; Hon. Rasak Olusola Ajala, Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo Local Community Development Association; Chairman, Community on Education, Hon. Philips Emmanuel (JP), Chairman, Orelope Development Association, Mr.Segun Onile and Treasurer, Orelope Community Development Association, Mr. DayoTayanwa.


In addition, the Director of Lagos Zonal Office, Prof. Foluke Fatimayin, represented by the centre’s Deputy Registrar, Mrs. Titilayo Lasaki, conveyed her appreciation to the community members as well as the entire staff of Surulere Study Centre for their support towards the growth of the centre.


"I stand before you today to convey management’s profound gratitude and appreciation of your unweaving support to the National Open University of Nigeria and its Study Centre at Surulere,” she said.


In his response, the LG chairman, Hon.Yusuf Sulaimon, expressed his deep appreciation towards the management as he was joyful to be at the event.


He further gave words of appreciation to Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to Mr. President, for his efforts in creating the study centre in his locality.


Others who also took turns to speak words of appreciation and enthusiasm were members of alumni association, Alh.Rafiu O. Babajide, Rev. Ngozi Nkem Erem, and Mrs. Phillip Sunday Anih.
