The Kaduna Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), in partnership with the Igabi Local Government Students Union, recently organized a debate competition for secondary schools in the area as part of the university's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.
Mr. Yusuf Abdullahi, the centre's director, emphasized that the competition was a channel through which the university can connect with the grassroots communities. He highlighted the importance of promoting education, particularly in research, and encouraged the students to take advantage of the opportunities available at NOUN.
Abdullahi further noted that the university's flexibility philosophy catered to the diverse needs of individuals, including farmers, housewives, and the army. He explained the three philosophical tripod of affordability, accessibility, and flexibility on which the university operates.
Comrade Saifulahi Ameer Magaji, the union's president, recognized the significance of the collaboration, stating that it would eliminate unforeseeable constraints and significantly increase the Igabi Students Association's success rate.
The competition's winners were Government Secondary School, Rigachikun, in first place, followed by Fasbena Academy in second and Maryam Academy in third. The event was attended by the Kaduna Study Centre's pioneer director, Prof. Nuhu Laurence Garba, academicians, traditional title holders, and politicians from the local government and beyond.
It's worth noting that NOUN also provides free education to inmates at the correctional facilities in the country.
