New District Head of Rigacikun visits Kaduna centre

In a bid to get acquainted with the nature and operations of institutions within his area of jurisdiction, the newly-appointed District Head of Rigachikun, Wamban Dokon Zazzau, Mallam Ibrahim Sani Zubairu, has undertaken a familiarisation visit to the Kaduna Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN). 


The Wamban Dokon Zazzau was recently appointed by the Emir of Zazzau, His Highness, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, to head the district, housing the Kaduna Study Centre is situated in Rigachikun, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.


Accompanied by some traditional title holders, he was received by the director of the centre, Mr. Yusuf Abdullahi, who described the visit as highly anticipated familiarisation visit.


In his welcome address, the director extended the felicitation of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters and added that the centre and the university are ready to work with the district as a host community for the development of education.


“Both the National Open University of Nigeria and the traditional institution are stakeholders in education,” said Yusuf. 


He maintained that the existence of the university in Rigachikun for more than a decade has brought meaningful educational developments in the area and Kaduna State as a whole.


The director added that the university is aimed at ensuring education is taken to the door steps of every Nigerian.


Yusuf, therefore, appealed to the district head to partner the university in propagating the existence and mode of operation of the university, assuring to  communicate the request of the traditional institution to the highest authority of the university.


In his response, the District Head of Rigachikun, Wanban Dokon Zazzau, Mallam Ibrahim Sani Zubairu, appreciated the management of NOUN for the opportunity to familiarise with each other. 


He explained that he deemed it fit to go round and familiarise himself with all the establishments domiciled within the Rigachikun District for a smooth administration. 


The district head, who later toured the centre to inspect the facilities, urged the university, especially the Kaduna Study Centre, to engage more in creating awareness through its routine advocacy campaign. 


He lamented that a lot needs to be done as a greater percentage of people know about the existence of the university with minimal knowledge of how it operates.  


He promised to work with the university in the area of advocacy to improve the knowledge of the existence of the university and its mode of operation and appealed to the university management to kindly consider the host community during recruitment of junior staffers.
