Mock accreditation team visits Kano centre as NUC’s arrival looms

The mock accreditation team of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has visited the Kano Study Centre to ascertain the level of preparedness and readiness ahead of the forthcoming National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation exercise.


The NUC accreditation team is expected at Kano Study Centre for the exercise in October, 2023, the acting director of the centre, Muddasir Ahmad Ishaq, said. 


The mock accreditation team, which was led by the Director, Directorate of Academic Planning (DAP), Prof. Godwin I. Akper, comprised of the Ag. Director, Learner Support Services (DLSS), the Dean, Faculty of Arts, and the Head, Hausa Unit in the Department of Linguistics, Foreign and Nigerian Languages. 


According to the host director, the Kano centre facilities have undergone serious inspection and scrutiny to ensure that all is up to standard and in good shape to receive the NUC accreditation team. 


The e-library, the library, facilitation hall, examination hall, offices, convenience rooms were some the facilities inspected, said Ishaq.


Shortly after the inspection, the team held a meeting with the management and staff of the centre where they advised them to ensure placement of Information Advice and Guidance (IA&G) Help Desk in strategic locations for students and visitors.


On his part, Akper further urged the centre to outline the records of all its needs in writing for onward transmission for immediate approval so as to aid and ensure a successful and hitch-free exercise. 


He further enjoined the centre to, in a matter of urgency, organise a language laboratory orientation and with all the facilities placed appropriately. 


It was in the light of this that the centre, as part of its preparations, organised an orientation to both new and existing students on the expectations of the accreditation and the roles they are expected to play during the exercise, the director said.. 


Ishaq added that the orientation was successfully conducted whereas the students were well and adequately equipped and ready for the exercise.
