The Jalingo Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has embarked on a road-show campaign as part of its resolve to boost students’ enrollment threshold of the centre.

The advocacy team started its long-walk on the Abubakar Barde Road, Jalingo, where the team, led by the Chief Counsellor of the centre, Mrs. Ranyang Nyangwae Akafa, distributed flyers and other advocacy materials to the pedestrians, ‘Keke NAPEP’ operators as well as the organised private shops owners.

Other areas walked through were GSM Village, Main market, and NIPOST Office, who were informed of the institution’s modus operandi, its myriad advantages over conventional system and the various programmes run by the university.

The team leader said they were targeting the general public from the grass-roots, giving first-hand information and engaging them on one-on-one discussion as well as guiding them on the procedures of admission process of the university.

The exercise also featured an on-the-spot processing of admission for interested members of the public.

The outing, according to the team, afforded them the opportunity to entertain a lot of questions, offer clarifications and cleared misconceptions about the ODL mode of leaning championed by the university.

Akafa, who was visibly elated on the outcome of the exercise, said it has yielded a number of instant positives and significant feedback as many people indicated their interests to enroll in NOUN.

The road-show campaign method, she added, would be sustained in the centre to continue to woo a large number of people, adding that the exercise will henceforth be observed regularly.

Some of the staff who spoke to NOUN News, expressed their excitement with the new development, saying that the exercise will not only increase the population of students at the centre, but will also improve the health status of staff.
