The Mani Community Study Centre, a part of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has embarked on a proactive advocacy campaign. Led by the Acting Centre Director, Mr. Shamwil Salisu Bala, the team visited the Chairman of Mashi Local Government Area, Katsina State, and the Iyan Katsina, District Head of Mashi, to spread their advocacy messages.
Their first stop was the Iyan Katsina's Palace, where Mr. Bala highlighted the historical evolution of the university. He urged the District Head to encourage the people in his jurisdiction to embrace NOUN, emphasizing the abundant opportunities it offers.
The Ag. Director stressed the importance of the District Head's support in mobilizing philanthropists, politicians, and well-meaning individuals to sponsor deserving applicants into the university. By doing so, they can extend the benefits of higher education to a wider population.
In response, the District Head expressed his appreciation for the establishment of NOUN in the zone and the courtesy of the visit. He pledged to engage relevant stakeholders, including state and national assembly members and other influential figures, to support the centre's activities and sponsor qualified and less-privileged individuals.
Next, the team visited the Mashi Local Government Secretariat, where they met with the Honourable Chairman, Alhaji Salisu Kalle Mani. Mr. Salisu expressed his gratitude for the audience and assured the team of his administration's commitment to making higher education accessible to the local indigenes.
Interestingly, the Chairman himself is pursuing an MSc in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution at NOUN. He commended the university's flexibility, which allows him to continue his studies while effectively leading the council. Alhaji Salisu pledged his full support to the centre and encouraged LGA staff to enroll, assuring them that their studies wouldn't interfere with their official duties.
In an encouraging display of solidarity, the Chairman revealed that he is currently studying at the Katsina Study Centre for his master's program. He demonstrated his readiness to support the university's mission.
As a token of appreciation, the Acting Centre Director presented NOUN souvenirs to both the Chairman and the District Head.
It's heartening to witness such proactive efforts by the Mani Community Study Centre, seeking to broaden access to education and foster support from local authorities. With dedicated individuals like Mr. Bala leading the way, we can hope for greater educational opportunities and community involvement in Katsina State.
