Former President Olusegun Obasanjo Congratulates Olugbemiro Jegede on AAU Award

In a recent development, Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, extended his heartfelt congratulations to Emeritus Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede for his prestigious recognition as the "AAU Higher Ambassador for Open and Distance Learning in Africa." The award was presented to Jegede during a ceremony held in Namibia by the Association of African Universities (AAU), honoring his remarkable contributions to advancing excellence in African higher education.


Expressing his admiration and appreciation, Obasanjo released a statement commending Jegede for the historic award and acknowledging the scholar's humility in associating the former president with his significant contributions to higher education in Africa.


"Professor Jegede, congratulations on your historic award, and a special thank you for your humility in honoring me with your association in the field of higher education in Africa. May you continue to receive divine guidance, expand your influence, and be equipped with everything you need to make a lasting impact on education and knowledge at local, national, continental, and global levels," Obasanjo's statement read.


It is worth noting that this distinguished recognition was bestowed upon Jegede during the 22nd Conference of Rectors, Vice-Chancellors, and Presidents of African Universities held in Windhoek, Namibia. The Secretary-General of AAU, Prof. Olusola Bandele Oyewole, highlighted Jegede's significant contributions to the advancement of African higher education as the basis for this prestigious accolade.


Jegede's extensive experience includes serving as a former Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), former Secretary to the Kogi State Government, and former Secretary-General of the Association of African Universities headquartered in Ghana. He has played pivotal roles in the development of Open and Distance Learning systems, having worked in various capacities in Australia, Hong Kong, and Ghana.


The award bestowed upon Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede is a testament to his unwavering dedication and immense contributions to the field of education.
