The BNSc students of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) have started their 2023_1 lab Objective Structures Clinical Examination (OSCE). This examination is organized by the Department of Nursing Sciences in the Faculty of Health Sciences at the university.
The examination is happening in different batches across selected study centers all over the country. The faculty's examiners, preceptors, and desk officers are coordinating the process at each study center.
The students at the Bauchi and Damaturu Study Centers have already completed their examinations in the specialist hospitals located in their respective cities.
Dr. Mohammed Nasiru, who supervised and coordinated the team in Bauchi, said that the students' overall performance was mostly good.
"We can't make final judgments about their performance, but we noticed that some students performed well, some performed moderately, and some performed fairly. But overall, most of the students did well," said Nasiru.
One student expressed her excitement, saying, "I'm grateful to God. We participated well and did our best. It was my first time taking this kind of examination, but I received proper guidance on what to expect. I believe I will get the highest grade."
Dr. Bukar Mohammed, the preceptor at the Damaturu center, praised the students' performance and mentioned that the examination went smoothly without any problems.
He suggested having more examiners in the future to handle the increasing number of students and make the process faster and better.
The OSCE is a new type of examination introduced by the department. It requires students to perform specific tasks within a given time, such as taking a patient's history or conducting a focused physical examination. The purpose is to demonstrate their skills and abilities in a practical setting.
