The Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Olufemi Peters, has charged new students to leverage the university's adaptable learning environment and uphold exemplary standards of conduct.
Prof. Peters delivered this message during a recent visit to the Lagos Study Centre, coinciding with the orientation program for incoming students. The visit provided an opportunity for direct engagement and encouragement.
He specifically encouraged the new entrants to embrace technology and explore the Federal Government's student loan program as resources to enhance their academic journey. "This is a golden opportunity, use it wisely" he urged.
"But most especially," Prof. Peters emphasized, "your role is to represent the university as good role models anywhere you found yourselves." He underscored the importance of ethical behavior and positive representation of NOUN.
The Vice-Chancellor extended his best wishes to the students, expressing hope for their success both within the university and in their future endeavors.
A dynamic question and answer session followed, allowing students to voice their concerns. A key issue raised was the heavy traffic congestion in areas like Sangotedo and Ajah. Students proposed the establishment of a new study centre in that region to alleviate commuting challenges. The VC promised to carefully consider the proposal.
Earlier in the program, Dr. Alero Akujobi, the Centre Director, stressed the necessity of ICT proficiency for all students. She highlighted that NOUN's programs are heavily reliant on its ICT infrastructure, making digital literacy a crucial skill for academic success.
