Uyo NOUN Study Centre Equips Education Students for Practicum, Hosts Computing Practical
Uyo, Akwa Ibom State - The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Uyo Study Centre, took a proactive step in preparing its Faculty of Education students for their upcoming 2025_1 semester practicum and teaching practice exercise. A dedicated sensitisation workshop was held on Friday, April 25, 2025, aimed at providing students with the essential tools and knowledge for a successful practical experience.
Associate Professor Edwin Bassey, the Centre Director, served as the key resource person for the workshop. His expertise guided students through the critical aspects of the practicum, ensuring they are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
The primary objective of the workshop was to furnish participants with the technical know-how and a comprehensive understanding of the requirements necessary for navigating the practicum and teaching practice exercises effectively. This included detailed explanations of procedures, expectations, and assessment criteria.
In addition to the Centre Director, several key officers from the Uyo Study Centre contributed their expertise as resource persons. These included Mr. Michael Mkpang, Principal Assistant Registrar (PAR), Mr. Kingsley Nnamdi Egbu, Principal Store Officer (PSO), and the designated Faculty of Education Desk Officer for the centre. Their collective insights provided a well-rounded perspective on the practical aspects of the program.
Later that same day, the Uyo Study Centre also hosted students of Computing for their CIT104 practical session, a crucial component of their computing studies. This hands-on experience allows students to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting.
The practical exercise was assessed by a team of experts from the Department of Computer Science, University of Uyo. Dr. Daniel Asuquo, a respected figure in the field, served as the lead assessor and programme moderator, ensuring the integrity and quality of the assessment process. The collaboration with the University of Uyo underscores NOUN's commitment to providing a robust and relevant learning experience for its students.
