NOUN Mourns the Loss of Two Dedicated Staff Members

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) is in mourning following the passing of two valued members of its community. The university's management has announced the deaths of Professor Ojonigu Friday Ati and Mrs. Bilikisu Victor Yiwa.

Professor Ati, a member of the Department of Environmental Sciences within the Faculty of Sciences, and Mrs. Yiwa, a Principal Assistant Registrar stationed at the Jos Study Centre, both passed away after battling illnesses. The notifications, issued separately and dated April 28, 2025, were officially communicated by the university's Registrar, Mr. Oladipo Ajayi.

While the official announcements acknowledged the profound loss, the specific dates of death for Professor Ati and Mrs. Yiwa were not disclosed.

In a statement regarding Professor Ati, Registrar Ajayi noted, "He joined the services of the university on 1st February, 2025, on transfer of service from the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State." Ajayi further emphasized Ati's contributions: "During his time with us, he distinguished himself through his dedication to scholarship, academic excellence, and service to the university community. He was a valued member of staff, admired for his professionalism, humility, and commitment to the development of his field." His absence will be deeply felt.

The Registrar also conveyed the university's deep sorrow regarding the passing of Mrs. Yiwa. He described her as a "distinguished administrator who served the university with dedication, professionalism, and outstanding commitment. Her invaluable contributions to the operations of Jos Study Centre and the university at large will be remembered with deep appreciation." Her dedication to NOUN was unwavering.

On behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the university's management, and all staff, Mr. Ajayi extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. The university community prays that the Almighty grants them the strength and fortitude to bear this profound loss. The entire NOUN community stands with the families during this difficult time
