Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters addressing members of staff at the Lagos campus

Governing Council of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), has proposed the segmentation of the university into zones, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, has said.

Peters, who dropped this during his recent visit to the NOUN’s Lagos Campus, said the move was aimed at easing the administrative processes of the university.

"The university Council had suggested segmenting the university into zones, for administrative convenience with each zone with its zonal director,” he said.

While this move, according to the VC, aims to improve efficiency, the university is still searching for suitable zonal officers for the six zones, as well as sourcing for funds to cater for the facilities.

He, however, used the forum to announce to staff Prof. Foluke Fatimayin as the first South-west Zonal Director.

Accompanied during the visit by the Registrar, Mr. Oladipo Ajayi the Vice-Chancellor stated that the Lagos Study Centre is the leading study centre in Nigeria, and encouraged the centre staff to maintain its high standards.

The centre was praised for its efforts in moving students from the Faculty of Law forward, particularly in restarting their admission programme.

This achievement is a testament to the centre's commitment to providing quality education, he added.

Peters added that the university is working tirelessly in resolving the issue of students’ payments and the portal, acknowledging that admission, course codes, and uploading of new courses pose some challenge for students.

"The centre has organised various orientations and interactive sessions to support new students, including a virtual orientation programme," the VC said.

The Vice-Chancellor was earlier welcomed to the centre by the management and staff of the Lagos Campus of the university.
