The Special Study Centres for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), of the National Open University of Nigeria, (NOUN), have held separate orientation programmes for freshmen.

The orientation events held at the respective centres on Thursday, May 2, 2024, and Friday, May 3, 2024, saw both centre directors welcoming the students to the university and advised them to be of good behaviours and represent the university well wherever they found themselves.

The students were taken through what they should expect studying in an Open and Distance Learning (ODL), institution like NOUN.

At the NURTW centre, Garki, Abuja, the Acting Director, Dr. Paul Ifeanyi used the occasion to explain to the new students that the university strongly frowns at examination misconducts as the university expects them to be of good behaviour throughout their studies.

Ifeanyi also advised them to study hard and prepare well for their examinations and make sure that they do their TMAs by themselves which he said would also help to prepare them ahead of examinations if they want to excel in their academic pursuit.

Similarly, the heads of unit at the centre, took their turns to speak to the students.

Head of Admin, Mr. Abass Olawale, introduced all staff to the students and informed them to always meet the Desk Officers whenever they have any challenges, while on her part, the Head of Store Unit, Mrs. Grace Dembo spoke in detail to the students on the avenues the university has provided  to make their studies easier.
