A member representing Igabi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Hussaini Muhammed Jallo, has promised to engage the National Open University of Nigeria's Centre for Human Resource Development (NOUN-CHRD) in artisan and skills development training.
Jallo said this in his goodwill message shortly after the 13th Convocation Ceremony of the university at the Kaduna Study Centre.
NOUN News recalls that CHRD has a rich history of qualitative artisans and skills development programmes.
It is a home of mentoring and support services in trade and skills acquisition, business management, agriculture, industrial and corporate initiative, among others.
Speaking, the member said giving priority to his constituents in skills development is his ultimate desire and a task before him. "This was why I graced this convocation ceremony at the centre.
"The centre has been domiciled in my constituency here in Igabi, therefore, I must give priority to its programmes and activities," said Jallo, who is the Chairman of the House Committee on Pensions.
While speaking on youths' artisan and skills development training, the lawmaker stated that "it will be of importance to Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State and Nigeria. It is a humble attempt of giving back to the society what the society has given to me."
He added that the gesture has become incumbent upon him because one of the greatest challenges facing government today is providing the youth with a meaningful and gainful employment, social empowerment and opportunities for personal development.
"This process and initiative of the training is going to rid the society off disillusionment, dependency, degradation, drug addiction created by lack of economic and social mobility for the youth population in the society," Jallo added.
He explained further that as the nation faces “several economic disruptive and seemingly intractable conflicts, to eradicate these, we must embark on serious and concerted artisan and skills acquisition development training backed by entrepreneurial support for the teeming youth population.”
The Reps member stated that no ward in his constituency will be left untouched as the training will affect all the teeming youths across Igabi Local Government Federal Constituency, irrespective of gender, economic status and political affiliation.
He, therefore, congratulated NOUN and the graduates for the remarkable achievement recorded.
Jallo urged the graduates to effectively make good use of what they have learned in order to contribute their quota towards the national development.
