The newly-appointed Kaduna Study Centre director, Dr. Babangida Iro, has said that his appointment to steer the affairs of the centre was purely based on merit.
Iro, formerly at the Katsina Study Centre, took over from Mr. Yusuf Abdullahi, who now heads to Katsina as the centre’s director.
The director, who spoke shortly after the handing over ceremony, appreciated the management and the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Olufemi Peters, for seeing the capacity in him to lead the centre.
"I have never thought and didn't ask for it; it's form God," he said.
The director assured that he would do everything possible to ensure that the centre maintains the rules and regulations governing the conduct of the university.
He urged staff of the centre to set NOUN at the forefront of what they are doing and emphasised that the staff were employed by NOUN, hence, they have to protect the university anywhere they go.
Iro cautioned them that whoever is not ready to comply with the rules and regulations of the university that provided them the jobs should better leave than sabotage the university's activities.
"I am a humble and friendly person. Some of you know me. I don't like indiscipline, I cherish hard work. These are the areas I will put emphasis," Iro said.
He promised to deploy all the necessary mechanisms to put the centre on the right track and also to ensure that all academic works carried out at the centre were in line with the laid down rules and regulations in conjunction with the activities from the departments and faculties.
Speaking on students enrolment, the director said it is the most important thing at the moment, as, according to him, if students do not exist at the centre, the purpose of him being the director is no even something to look at.
"Where ever you are what the university wants is students enrolment," the director said, adding that his desire now is to increase the enrolment figure of the centre in line with the vision of the Vice-Chancellor.
He said it is part of his efforts and ambition to see that he double the enrolment of students at the centre.
The director explained that a similar model deployed at his former centre would equally be used to achieve and enhance enrolment level of students.
The use of social media would be given emphasis as most of the university’s potential clients are there online awaiting the information about such an opportunity, Iro said.
He appealed to the university for its continued support and faith in him to contribute his quota towards uplifting the university to greater heights.
The director assured the management of total commitment and determination to deliver the mandate saddled on him to steer the centre and the university to the promised land.
