The management of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), on Friday 29th July ,2022, organised a mock accreditation exercise at its Lagos Study Centre in order to test run the preparedness of the centre to host the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the actual accreditation coming up in October/November 2022.

The accreditation team led by the chairman, Prof.A.A Njidda, had a briefing with the centre director, Dr.Alero Akujobi and the desk officers, informing them about the necessary documents, files and records to be presented.

“Our presence here is not for the actual accreditation, this is not accreditation, we are sent to see the level of preparedness of the centre in relation to the actual accreditation that is coming up in October/ November,’’ Njidda said.

‘’The team is here to check non-teaching and academics staff and students' files and some physical structure. We will look at these three sections, then we will give the school our reports. We have two months to get set,’’ he added.

According to the team chair, the team had a line up of eight programmes to evaluate. "The logic behind this is that out of the 104 study centres we have, we don't know the study centre the NUC would visit, so we have to visit all centres across the country making sure everything is well prepared so that no centre would be found wanting. This is the essence of our coming here" he said.

"We are expected to access some degree courses like BA Agricultural Science, BA Arabic Studies, BSc Entrepreneurship, BA Christian Theology, BSc Philosophy, and others."

We are also here to assess the number of both academic and non-teaching staff members, students’ files, and some facilities and to submit the reports to the university management.

NOUN news gathered that the exercise would run for two days, with the hope of satisfactory reports as the exercise also involved other academic teams visiting other centres.
