The Head, SERVICOM Unit of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Mrs. Margaret I. Boro has urged members of staff of the university to make it duty-bound to place the interest of the students above their personal interests.
Mrs. Boro, who is the SERVICOM Nodal Officer in the university, stated this on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 while fielding questions from NOUN News correspondent in her office at the headquarters in Abuja.
"We should serve our customers right. All our staff, either at the headquarters or study centres must ensure that they put our customers first. The interest of our customers should be number one and should be paramount to their own interests," Boro said.
While appealing to members of staff to be committed to their duties, she also advised them to avoid sharp practices, adding that the right thing should be done unconditionally.
"And we frown at our staff who will say they have to take something before they do something; it's wrong. You are paid on a monthly basis for the work you do. So why must you ask students to give you something before you do the right thing?
“Why must you ask for money; why must you ask for gratification before you do the right thing? So we are appealing and encouraging our staff to do the right thing at the right time," she said.
Explaining the mandate of SERVICOM, the immediate-past Director of Staff Training and Development (ST&D), said SERVICOM is not policing anybody but to sensitise staff on how to do the right thing.
"We are working together to achieve the organisational goal. We have mission and objectives of the university and we will ensure they are carried out to the latter," she said.
Boro, who said she would continue from where her predecessors stopped, promised to take NOUN SERVICOM to a greater height, saying that SERVICOM entertains complaints from clients (students), staff and other stakeholders and address them accordingly without fear or favour.
