The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has held a capacity-building training on International Certification of Digital Literacy (ICDL), for both teaching and non-teaching staff of all public tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

The workshop, which commenced on Monday, February 5, 2024, at the Yola Study Centre of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), was expected to benefit participants from the innovation in certification programme development and commitment to rigorous test design methodologies as well as quality assurance standards.

According to the ICDL Country Manager, Mr. Adewale Adekunle, the TETFund ICT projects on ICDL train-the-trainer workshop was designed to promote sustainable digital skills in its beneficiary institutions.

Adekunle stated that the purpose of the training was for all public tertiary institutions in Nigeria to become Accredited Test Centres (ACT) of the International Certification of Digital Literacy (ICDL).

He said for someone to offer ICDL to his learners, students and staff need to be ICDL accredited, which TETFund is providing funds to increase the number of ATCs for training and certification

"For someone to become an Accredited Test Centre of ICDL, he has to participate at this train-the-trainer workshop, which the ICDL is organising and being sponsored by TETFund for all the public tertiary institutions in Nigeria," he said.

He said that teaching and non-teaching staff of the public tertiary institutions are the participants of the training, adding that 13 public institutions in Adamawa State have joined the training exercise, which, at the end of the programme, would be awarded with certificates.

The country manager added that the workshop was being held in NOUN centres across the federation with the exception of Ibadan and Lagos, adding that their next port of call would be Bauchi Study Centre.
