Accreditation: NUC undertakes routine exercise in Kano

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has undertaken a routine accreditation exercise at the Kano Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).


The exercise, which took place on Monday, October 23, 2023 was spearheaded by Prof. Umar B. Ahmad who introduced other members of the team. 


Among other members were Prof. Muhammad Dantumbishi, Prof. Aishatu A. Mubi, and the NUC representative who doubled as the secretary of the team, Mrs. Amaka Ogoke. 


Welcoming the team, the Ag. Kano Study Centre director, Mr. Muddasir Ahmad Ishaq, expressed his gratitude and happiness to God for witnessing the much important and anticipated exercise. 


Ishaq highlighted the profile of the centre where he stated that the centre was fully and absolutely ready for the exercise. 


He added that all the sections have made necessary arrangement for their arrival and therefore sought for their support to make the whole exercise a successful one.


The team lead who, after the welcome address, explained that they were at the centre for a routine accreditation exercise and outlined what they require to carry out their assignment. 


Shortly after the briefing, the team engaged on facility inspection and first visited the staffers’ offices as well as the students’ conveniences. 


Others were Lecture Theatre/Examination Hall, E-examination/ICT Unit, Centre's Library, E-Library, Language Laboratory, Warehouse, Information Advice and Guidance (IA&G) and Counseling Unit. 


Speaking with NOUN News Dr. Ibrahim Garba Gwammaja, Unit Head, B.A. Hausa, described the accreditation as the formal recognition by an authoritative body of the competence to work to specified standard.


Gwammaja said the university regulatory body conducts the exercise in order to make quality in the university system. As such, B.A Hausa, B.A. French, B.A. Yoruba, B.A. Igbo have undergone the routine exercise.  


He assured that all the programmes will get full accreditation because of good preparation put in place by the management, directories, centres, teaching and non-teaching staff for the exercise.


The team lead expressed satisfaction and commended the Ag.centre director and his team for prompt response on all issues, cleanliness of the environment despite certain challenges especially in the proximity of the centre.


Dr. Musa Ila from the university library formed part of the university team that ensured the smooth and successful exercise.
