Peters commends accreditation c'ttee, promises to implement recommendations

The Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Olufemi Peters, has commended the mock accreditation committee constituted  to ascertain the level of preparedness of the university for the forthcoming National Universities Commission’s (NUC) accreditation exercise and promised to implement the committee's recommendations.


The former DVC Academics of the university, Emeritus Prof. Godwin Sogolo-led committee submitted its report to the Vice-Chancellor on Friday, October 20, 2023 at the university's headquarters, Jabi, Abuja.


While thanking the Vice-Chancellor for the opportunity to serve the university, Sogolo described the assignment as a "wonderful experience," as the assignment has brought them to think together.


Sogolo, who commended members of staff and study centres directors for their supports, hinted that their cooperation has made the assignment easy for them.


Presenting the reports, he said in an Open and Distance Learning (ODL) institution, internet connection is ranked as number one, saying that during the assignment, internet issue cuts across all the centres the committee visited saying Wi-Fi dominates  all the centres.


The committee also suggested to the management to do something urgent regarding laboratories, constituting of permanent accreditation committee and exclusion of Badagry and Ikorodu Study Centres from the upcoming accreditation exercise as they remain relatively new.


Responding, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the committee for the onerous assignment and promised to implement all the committee's recommendations for a better accreditation exercise.


Peters informed the committee that arrangements have been concluded for a centralised internet connectivity at the headquarters and the study centres will not be left out in the arrangements, affirming that Badagry and Ikorodu will be exempted from the exercise.


Besides, the VC informed the committee that NOUN has a centralised laboratory at the headquarters.


In his vote of thanks, the Registrar, Mr. Oladipo Ajayi, thanked the committee for the successful assignment and re-echoed the Vice-Chancellor’s assertion that all the committee's recommendations will be implemented.
