Faculty of Health Science students present seminar in Kaduna

The students of Masters in Public Health, and the BNSC Nursing 500Level, 300Level and 400Leve, Faculty of Health Science of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), have held seminar presentation in Kaduna.


The event, which took place at the Kaduna Study Centre, was attended by the dean of the faculty, Prof. Shehu Usman Adamu, the Faculty Officer, Mrs. Cicelia Oluto, director of the centre, Mr.Yusuf Abdullahi  and the Head of Administration of the centre, Hajiya Fatiama Yakubu.  


To moderate the presentations were two supervisors: Dr. Suleyman Tanko, School of Health Science Technology, Kaduna State University, and Dr. Hauwa Bello Sharif of Kaduna Polytechnic, both are experts in Public Health and Nursing, respectively. 


The dean commended the director and staff of the centre for the success of the exercise and applauded the facilitators for their thorough job, assuring that the university will continue the partnership with them in the area of facilitation.


Adamu urged the students to ensure a rigorous engagement during the course of developing their seminar and in the presentation, informing them that the NOUN Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, is out to ensure that standards are maintained. 


He warned that the university will not succumb to any form of relentless effort that will compromise standard, even as he congratulated them for the successful presentation and urged them to effect corrections where necessary.


On his part, the director, Mr. Yusuf Abdullahi in his his opening remarks, enjoined the students to accept all forms of criticism in good faith because it is for their own good.


He stressed that the students were not expected to argue but to listen and make the necessary corrections where necessary, emphasising that “the only way for us to learn is to be subjected to constructive criticism.”


Explaining on the nitty gritty aspects of the exercise, the Faculty Officer stated that seminar presentation is a structured meeting ao a conference where a group of individuals often expects or professionals gathered to discuss a particular subjects.  


She said it involves presentations and discussions including exchange of ideas relating to the topic, stressing that it forms part of the academic requirements for the students of Nursing and Public Health Science. 


Some of  the topics the students presented were: "Perceptions and Attitude of Physical Exercise to Pregnant Women," "Vaccine Hesitancy in Northern Nigeria, Causes, Public Health Consequences.”
