In a progressive stride towards enhancing the caliber and reliability of examinations, the Directorate of Examinations and Assessment (DEA) has taken a pioneering step. Led by the visionary Director, Prof. Olugbenga Ojo, the DEA orchestrated a meticulous moderation process for test items, spearheaded by esteemed external professors.

This ingenious moderation exercise, conceived within the depths of the directorate, was designed with a singular goal in mind: to fortify the excellence and credibility of examination questions. Beyond that, it aimed to illuminate the gray areas that often shrouded the standard of test items and create a robust repository of questions.

The approach taken by the directorate was both innovative and strategic. Recognizing the value of external expertise, the decision was made to source high-quality test items from academic luminaries scattered across the nation. To facilitate this, a comprehensive training workshop was convened, where the distinctive question-setting style and essential guidelines of NOUN were shared with the external examiners.

The workshop's agenda encompassed a meticulous review and refinement of five sets of questions, meticulously aligned with their corresponding marking criteria, spanning across the 300-800 levels of academic rigor.

This dynamic training event unfolded at the Abuja Model Study Centre from August 10th to 11th, 2023. The occasion bore witness to the presence of an impressive assembly of 135 esteemed professors, each contributing their knowledge and insights to this pivotal undertaking.

As the echoes of achievement resound in the aftermath of this significant endeavor, Prof. Olugbenga Ojo, the visionary director, articulated his thoughts on the triumph. He emphasized that the culmination of this training reflects NOUN's commitment to academic eminence, reinforcing its identity as a bastion of learning that prizes meticulous evaluation and an unwavering dedication to assessment processes.

"The triumph not only underscores NOUN's pledge to uphold academic brilliance but also cements its stature as an institution that places immense value on a rigorous evaluation and assessment ethos," Prof. Ojo expressed, radiating pride in the accomplishment.

In light of this success, the director extended his gratitude to various stakeholders who played a pivotal role. Prof. Olufemi Peters, the Vice-Chancellor, along with the heads of departments, the director, and the dedicated staff of the Abuja Model Study Centre, received heartfelt appreciation for their steadfast support to the DEA.

In summary, this profound engagement with external professors for test moderation has etched a new benchmark for examination quality. With unwavering determination and a commitment to pushing the boundaries of academic excellence, NOUN's DEA has demonstrated that collaboration, innovation, and meticulous assessment are the pillars that uphold the institution's educational legacy.
