In an earnest endeavor to foster an educational revolution and broaden the horizons of learning, the Enugu Study Centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) embarked on a mission of enlightenment. On the 9th of August, 2023, the center's management ventured forth to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Enugu, Enugu State, carrying the torch of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode of instructional delivery.

Guiding the charge was Professor Alexander Uche Onyia, the Center Director and head of the team. He shed light on the operations of NOUN as an ODL institution, powered by technology and founded on the principles of flexibility, affordability, and cost-effectiveness. He passionately expressed that NOUN stands as a federal university, committed to democratizing higher education, and bringing the gift of learning within reach of every Nigerian, regardless of their location or background.

With a resounding emphasis on inclusivity, Professor Onyia underlined that ODL mode transcends age, gender, and social status, presenting a gateway for knowledge-seekers to embark on their academic journeys. The essence of NOUN's motto, "Learn at your place, at your pace," was revealed – it symbolizes the institution's dedication to accessible and flexible education. This sentiment was echoed in Professor Onyia's assurance that NOUN's structure accommodates the mobility of para-military personnel, allowing them to seamlessly continue their studies despite transfers.

A key aspect highlighted was the absence of challenges that often plague traditional universities, such as strikes, unionism, and quota systems. This attribute, coupled with the efficiency of NOUN's academic framework, ensures that students can complete their programs within the stipulated time frame.

Addressing concerns about tuition fees, Professor Onyia reaffirmed that NOUN offers the most affordable fees when compared to other universities in Nigeria. He extended a heartfelt invitation to FRSC staff to seize the opportunity presented by NOUN to enhance their academic pursuits, as education waits for no one.

During the event, Mr. Matthew Egede, the Principal Assistant Registrar of the center, elucidated the application process and admission requirements for prospective students.

Responding to the advocacy visit, Salami Kolawole, the Acting Zonal Commanding Officer of FRSC in Enugu, expressed his appreciation and commitment. He pledged to encourage his staff to embrace the offered opportunity and enroll at the center, acknowledging the transformative potential that NOUN's ODL mode of education brings to the table.

The visit to the FRSC marked an inspiring step toward fostering a culture of lifelong learning, accessibility, and flexibility. As the NOUN Enugu Study Centre extended its arms to a broader audience, it illuminated the path to a brighter future, where education knows no boundaries and learning is embraced as a lifelong journey.
