NOUN Empowers 27 Inmate Graduates in Lagos with Certificates

In a heartwarming ceremony, the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) made a significant impact on the lives of 27 inmates at the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Lagos State. On July 13, 2023, the Vice-Chancellor of NOUN, Prof. Femi Peters, represented by Mr. Adekunle Okhogbe, the Principal Assistant Registrar, presented certificates during the 12th Convocation Ceremony to these deserving graduates.


The event was attended by representatives from the Mushin Study Centre, distinguished officers from the correctional centre, and the proud families and well-wishers of the graduates. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and appreciation for the opportunity to access quality and functional education within the confines of the correctional centre.


Addressing the audience, the VC's representative conveyed warm greetings from Prof. Femi Peters and expressed admiration for the growing number of inmates pursuing education. He appreciated the Controller-General, Halliru Danbaba, and the management of the maximum security custodial centre in Lagos for their continued support and cooperation in making these graduations possible each year.


The graduates were encouraged to view education as a stepping stone towards a brighter future. Emphasizing the transformative power of education, they were urged to build on their accomplishments and strive for success in their chosen fields.


During the ceremony, the Controller-General, Halliru Danbaba, represented by Deputy Comptroller of Corrections, Sikiru Olawale Balogun, congratulated the graduates on completing their formal education. He acknowledged the remarkable achievement of this year's ceremony, which recorded the highest number of inmate graduates to date.


Dr. Oluseye Oduntan, a retired DCC, also shared words of wisdom with the inmates. He urged them to stay focused on their positive dreams and pursue their areas of specialization without hindrance.


The graduation ceremony at the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Lagos stands as a testament to the power of education in transforming lives, even in challenging circumstances.
